Gas Engineer

Choosing a career as a gas engineer can be an exciting and rewarding decision. As a gas engineer, you will be responsible for installing, repairing, and maintaining gas appliances and systems in homes, businesses, and industrial settings. In this blog post, we’ll explore what it takes to become a gas engineer and what the job entails.

What Does a Gas Engineer Do?

A gas engineer is responsible for installing, repairing, and maintaining gas appliances and systems, such as boilers, gas fires, and central heating systems. They are also responsible for ensuring that these systems are safe and meet all relevant regulations and standards. Gas engineers work in a variety of settings, including homes, businesses, and industrial sites. Our main expertise lies in the facilities management sector, sourcing commercial gas engineers with experience in office blocks, shopping centres, retail facilities, hospitals, supermarkets, and schools.

How to Become a Gas Engineer 📃

You will need to have completed an apprenticeship or achieved the right qualifications i.e., Heating and Ventilation SVQ Level 3 (Scotland) or NVQ Level 3 (rest of the UK). These qualifications give you the knowledge and skills you need to work safely and competently with gas appliances and systems.

✔Once you have completed your training, you will need to register with Gas Safe, the official body responsible for gas safety in the UK. This will allow you to legally work on gas appliances and systems in the UK.

🎫There are two main types of gas engineers: domestic and commercial. At Aspirare Recruitment we primarily recruit for Commercial Gas Engineers, therefore you will need to acquire your commercial gas tickets, which are COCN1 or CODNCO1. If you are only wanting to work on a domestic basis, the ticket you require is CCN1.

What Skills Do You Need?🔧

To be a successful gas engineer, you will need to have a range of technical skills and personal qualities, including:

  • Good problem-solving skills: Gas engineers need to be able to diagnose and fix problems with gas appliances and systems quickly and efficiently.
  • Attention to detail: Gas engineers need to be able to follow technical drawings and manuals accurately and precisely to ensure that installations and repairs are carried out safely and correctly.
  • Good communication skills: Gas engineers need to be able to communicate effectively with customers and colleagues, explaining technical information in a way that is easy to understand.
