In response to Unite's press release on the experiences of a ‘mystery' agency worker, Tom Hadley, Director of External Relations for the Recruitment and Employment Confederation comments:
Unite's press release makes allegations about the treatment of an agency worker.
"The REC believes that the majority of agency workers have a positive experience of temporary work - a view upheld by independent surveying of thousands of agency workers.
However we take the allegations made in Unite's press release very seriously. All agency workers deserve fair treatment and we recommend that Unite refers these allegations to BERR's Employment Agency Standards Inspectorate. In addition, the REC investigates complaints against its members and would be keen to investigate any unethical treatment by its members.
Unite's allegations bear out the view that the Government's focus should be on better enforcement of the current rules. The Andrew Miller Bill, due to be debated on Friday, will not catch those agencies and employers who break the current rules.
